Guy Buffet studied art and advanced painting in Paris. After he joined the French Navy
at the age of 18, he was mamed the official artist of the French Navy
and given the prestigious assignment to "paint the world.
In the South Pacific where Buffet was on shore leave and hitchhiking with some fellow sailors, he was picked up by a motorist who was the mayor of the city. After visiting the ship and seeing some of Buffet's paintings, the mayor received permission from the captain for Buffet to his work in town From this came a series of one-man shows in the Hawaian Islands introducing Buffet to what he called "Paradise" He has since become known for his images of French life and waiters and restaurants. |
