Wren refers to himself as an "American Impressionist and he believes that a painting should be beautiful. Not necessarily pretty, but beautiful. He feels that impressionists rely on their surroundings and they tend to paint what is around them, what they are comfortable with and what they are knowledgeable about.

He believes that the purest way to approach painting is to communicate what moves you. Wren sees beauty all around him and feels it is important to heighten people's awareness of it, thus providing relief from the complexities of life. He believes that sharing joy is what it's all about.
